Our sources
How we work with the data
We organize agency readings by place, retaining their units, dates, and reference levels. A gauge height is measured from a local reference point; it is not interchangeable with elevation above sea level. Percent full describes reservoir storage, not the percentage of a lake's depth.
Charts use the cached readings or predictions published by each agency. Long histories are sampled for legibility; record highs and lows are calculated from the underlying series. Check the reading date on each page: a build date is not an observation date. Missing measurements are left unpublished, and historical records are distinguished from current conditions.
Every page is rebuilt daily and shows the timestamp of the reading it displays. Readings are provisional and may be revised by the publishing agency. Nothing here is suitable for navigation or life-safety decisions. We are an independent site and are not affiliated with any agency.
